Published: 1982

Abstract

The species of Parmelia found in the drier parts of the southern region of Australia are critically examined. A key to species and full descriptions of the taxa have been provided. The chemical properties of each species are detailed and the various chemical tests and reactions enumerated. Variation within species and taxonomic affinities are fully discussed. Representative specimens are cited and known distribution plotted on maps. Parrnelia bellatula Kurokawa & Filson, P. glareosa Kurokawa & Filson, P. helmsii, Kurokawa & Filson, P. nebulosa Kurokawa & Filson, P. terrestris Kurokawa & Filson and P. willisii Kurokawa & Filson have been described as new. The new combination Parmelia australasica (Galloway) Filson has been made.
