Abstract

Prochloron, the microscopic algae contained within the cloacal cavity of the ascidian Diplosoma virens; possesses fine structures similar to that of blue-green algae. However, the photosynthetic lamellae are composed of two appressed thylakoids, a feature slightly removed from the non-appressed thylakoids of prokaryotic blue-green algae.
