Population differentiation in Australian Cardamine. II. Response to variations in temperature and light intensity

Abstract

Variation in response to different regimes of temperature and light intensity was observed among altitudinal races of Cardamine from southern New South Wales. Generally, there was a fairly close relationship between altitude and the stability of populations from the different races under varying conditions of temperature and light intensity. Populations from high altitudes were, on the whole, far less stable in their responses than those from low altitudes. The significance of this variation in response is discussed with respect to the adaptation of the different races to their respective environments.
