Arginine requirements of pigs between 7 and 28 days of age

Abstract

Thirty-two male pigs, 7 days of age were offered dry pelleted milk diets containing 6.8-11.5 g Arginine/kg in two experiments each lasting 21 days. The results from these experiments indicated that in pigs fed on diets containing 192-279 g crude protein/kg, 6.8 g arginine/kg was sufficient for growth. The weight gain of pigs fed on all-milk protein diets was 245 g/day, while that of the pigs fed on an isonitrogenous diet containing 65 g glycine/kg was 190 g/day. It was estimated that only 55 % of the arginine in the weight gain of the pigs could be of dietary origin.
