Abstract
The effects of urea on the pathogenicity of Fusavium avenaceum (Fr.) Sacc, to wheat and of Steptomyces griseus (2-A24) and urea on the survival of F. avenaceum were examined. In pot experiments, urea amendments increased the severity of symptoms and reduced the dry weight and height of infected seedlings. Survival of F. avenaceum in oaten straw artificially infected with the fungus was studied in gamma-irradiated soil and in gamma-irradiated soil recontaminated with the original microflora. Over the test periods of 17 and 34 weeks, a urea amendment reduced survival only in the recontaminated soil, whereas S. griseus (2-A24) did so in both soils, the reduction being greater in the absence of other microflora.
