Abstract
Diphenylamine (DPA), injected into the core of Jonathan apples, increased the incidence of low temperature breakdown in fruit which had developed breakdown after 20 weeks in cool storage, but had no effect on fruit which did not develop breakdown until after 40 weeks. Applications of DPA early in storage were less effective in inducing breakdown than late applications. These effects were attributed to a gradual loss of DPA from the flesh tissue during storage, and to the action of DPA on the terminal reactions of the metabolic pathway which produces breakdown.https://doi.org/10.1071/AR9730373
