Abstract

Seventy-nine male Friesian calves were fed on diets containing meat meal dried skim milk as the protein supplement, between 35 and 77 days of age. Meat meal resulted in significantly greater (P < 0.05) liveweight gains but no change in the efficiency of feed conversion. Supplementation of the meat meal methionine did not improve the liveweight gains.

The cost of raising a calf to 11 weeks of age has been calculated.
