Further experiments in the control of Aphodius howitti Hope by DDT

Abstract

Continued observations on Aphodius populations in a pasture treated with DDT in 1946 (Carne 1948) indicate that a single such treatment results in a marked depression of the larval population for at least three seasons. It has been shown that dosages of DDT as low as 10 ounces† per acre result in an effective control of first-instar larvae. The use of DDT-impregnated superphosphate is a simple and effective means of preventing the occurrence of Aphodius infestations in susceptible pastures.
