Abstract

The relation between application and penetration of water was examined on two soil types where the top soil is a coarse uniform sand. The relation y = -0.40 + 9 . 0 2x was found for Barmera Sand, and y = 1.48 + 9 . 1 8x and y = 1.86 + 10.31x for Winkie Sand where y = penetration of water (inches) and x = application of water (inches). The regression coefficients were significantly different from zero (P<0.001), and from this it is concluded that uneven distribution of water from sprinklers is mirrored in an uneven penetration of water.
