Abstract
A new core-sampler for sails is described-A thin-walled steel tube is driven into the soil by a sliding weight arrangement. The tube with its enclosed core is extracted with a hydraulic jack. For a sampling programme of either a large number of holes or very deep ones an electric hammer is very suitable for driving the tubes. Modifications enable the tubes to be used in saturated sands and wet sticky clays.https://doi.org/10.1071/EA9620238
