Seedling fluorescence and strain certification in subterranean clover — a reassessment

Abstract

The validity of the fluorescence test was queried when large numbers of aberrant fluorescents were recorded in Mt. Barker subterranean clover lines submitted for certification. The value of this screened ultra-violet light test for subterranean clover seed certification is reviewed in the light of experimental results. It is concluded that the test lacks general application but may still provide useful confirmatory evidence in specific cases.
