Abstract
Thirty-six Australian rodent specimens are mentioned in J. E. Gray's List of the specimens of Mammalia in the collection of the British Museum published in 1843. Twenty-nine of these have been located in the British Museum (Natural History). Information given for the Australian rodent specimens of Gray's List in the British Museum (Natural History) Catalogue of Mammalia IV. Glires, and Registers, and on labels with the twenty-nine specimens in the British Museum (Natural History), is recorded. The latter specimens are re-identified. Some of the thirty-six specimens are discussed. Thomas's lectotype selection for Mus greyii Gray, 1841 is invalid and a lectotype is selected for that taxon. The lectotype of Mus greyii Gray, 1841 and the holotype of Pseudomys australis Gray, 1832 are illustrated.https://doi.org/10.1071/AM74011
