Abstract

Syntypes of Hapalotis personata Krefft, 1867 are discussed and identified as belonging to Rattus leucopus (Gray), i.e. to the species named Acanthomys leucopus by Gray in 1867 and Mus terraereginae by Alston in 1879. A lectotype is designated for Hapalotis personata Krefft. Hapalotis personata Krefft and Acanthomys leucopus Gray were proposed simultaneously in part 2 of Proc. Zool. Soc. Lond. 1867. Because the name leucopus Gray, 1867 is in current use it is designated to be senior in synonymy to personata Krefft, 1867. The first available name for leucopus Gray, 1867 is personata Krefft, 1867.
