Abstract

The Clarence?Moreton Basin of south-eastern Queensland and north-eastern New South Wales is ?? regarded by some as the 'sleeper' of Australia's oil potential", (Wilkinson 1984). The basin is a geological analogue of the hydrocarbon producing Eromanga and Surat Basins, and to date a number of wells drilled in the basin have had fair to good hydrocarbon shows (Benstead 1975). The proximity of the basin to Brisbane and numerous coastal cities also ensures that even a relatively small hydrocarbon discovery could be commercially viable.
