Abstract

Between 1970 and 1971 the Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ) was involved in a survey to evaluate the limestone resources of the Warwick-Texas area. At Grieves Quarry sulphide mineralization was found associated with the limestone. A combined geophysical and drilling programme was devised to evaluate the sulphide contamination and the economic viability of the mineralization. Earlier investigations revealed massive sulphides of iron, zinc, copper and lead in a chlorite-calcite matrix associated with the limestone. Magnetic susceptibiliky measurements established the following magnetic properties for the rocks about Grieves Quarry. [See full text for table]. These values have been considered in the interpretation of a total field magnetic map. The massive sulphide/limestone deposits have been detected and a generalized geology map has been compiled based on the known geology and the magnetic, self-potential and induced polarization survey results.
