Abstract

Notomys mordax was named by Thomas in 1922 for a skull from Darling Downs, Queensland. The species is known only from the one specimen and it is seemingly extinct. Measurements are given of the holotype of N. mordax and of two skulls of Notomys mitchellii (Ogilby, 1838). The skull of N. mordax is figured. Among the known species of the genus, N. mordax is likely to be most closely related to N. mitchellii.
