Abstract
The nature of sexual dimorphism and other variation is examined in nine Australian mullets on the basis of external measurements. Some degree of sexual dimorphism is shown to be present in all species. In one species a form of variation unrelated to sex appears in the adults. Sexual dimorphism is expressed principally through relative variation in the placement of selected fins and the anus along the body axis. The possible prediction of sex for further individuals is considered together with implications for aquaculture.https://doi.org/10.1071/ZO9770615
