Abstract

The new genus Tapheocarpa (Cornmelinaceae) is described from Australia, and the new combination T. calandrinioides (F.Muell.) Conran is made for the taxon previously known as Aneilema calandrinioides F. Muell. The genus shows some affinities with both Aneilema R.Br. and Commelina L., but differs from other Commelinaceae in the possession of solitary, ebracteate, terminal flowers and indehiscent, hypogeous fruits.
