Abstract

A dendrochronological study has been made of a Halocarpus biformis (pink pine (= yellow pine)) chronology (La Marche et al. 1979) obtained from a site at the west arm of Lake Manapouri, New Zealand. The 410 year chronology has considerable low frequency variance, a low mean sensitivity value and no significant periodicities in the power spectrum of less than 13 years. A significant relationship (P < 0.01) exists between ENSO events in the previous spring and growth in the following year. The two other New Zealand Halocarpus species would also appear to have dendrochronological potential.
