Abstract

A new monotypic genus endemic to the south-eastern Polynesian island of Rapa, Apostates, is described to accommodate a species formerly known as Olearia rapae F. Brown. Its obscure position in the tribe Astereae is noted. A comprehensive description of the species A. rapae, an illustration and notes on its conservation status are provided.
