A new spore cyst fungus from New Zealand

Abstract

Asosphaera scaccaria sp.nov. is described. The mature ascospores of A. scaccaria in spore balls as perpendicularly arranged bundles of eight, giving the mature spore ball a unique appearance. A. scaccaria is associated with the larvae and prepupae of the sand-nesting, colletid bees, Leioproctus boltoni (Cockerell), L. metallicus (Smith) and two new as yet undescribed species of Leioproctus.
