Regulation of carbon metabolism under the damage of sink-source relations in wheat genoteypes

Abstract
It was found that the damage of sink-source relations in wheat genotypes differing in photosynthetic signs and productivity by an excision of a part of an ear or bottom leaves resulted in change of both photosynthetic enzymes activity and the rate of label incorporation into products of photosynthesis. These changes depend on genotypical peculiarities of plants. The observed change of the rate of (14C) incorporation into sucrose and glycine+serine after an excision of bottom leaves both in high productive and low productive genotypes had an opposite character. Significant decrease of (14C) incorporation into sucrose and minor increase of the label incorporation into glycine+serine were characteristic of high productive genotype with excised ear part. On the contrary, an excision of ear part from low productive genotype increased to some extent label incorporation into sucrose. The (14C) incorporation into products of glycolate pathway under artificial change of sink-source relations agrees with the change of an activity of RBP-oxygenase. Data obtained testify that the studied enzymes of photosynthesis participate in adaptation processes taking place in plants under various environmental conditions.https://doi.org/10.1071/SA0403557
