Tuberculosis is still the leading cause of death in developing and underdeveloped countries. DOTS schedule is common treatment modality in the effective management of tuberculosis. However, its possible effect on the ovarian function is not yet fully understood. In this manuscript we demonstrate the adverse effects of antituberculosis drugs used in DOTS schedule on female gonadal function.
Overall, one-third of infertility cases are caused by male reproductive issues that lower the chances of fertility. There are various known causes of azoospermia related to excessive heat like cryptorchidism, varicocele, and chemotherapy agents. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the inaccuracy of the functional changes of testicular tissue after testicular busulfan induced azoospermia mice models.
The expression level of miR-144 and miR-224 in cumulus cells of patients with polycystic ovary syndrome may be related to oocyte development. They can affect oocyte in vitro maturation (IVM) and fertilisation outcome by regulating their target genes (COX-2 and PTX-3, respectively). So, we suggested that the selected miRNAs may help to make IVM more efficient.
The use of drugs at fertile and gestational ages has an impact on health and embryofetal development. Clear safe usage limits are required when there is a need for continued drug use as in the case of antidepressants, like escitalopram. Escitalopram is described as safe in relation to fetal development. However in animal models of escitalopram use, high rates of abortion and fetal malformations were observed.
