Abstract
In this paper trust is viewed as a major issue in the relationship between consumers and providers of health care to people living with chronic diseases. The qualities of trust-based relationships are identified and their relevance to chronic disease self-management discussed. Finally, it is argued that an appropriately conceptualised approach to trust should be included in service evaluations as a means of improving the quality of the relationship between consumers and health care providers.https://doi.org/10.1071/PY03021
