Abstract
The dynamic interaction between an initially uniform vertical magnetic field and a Rayleigh-Benard type layer of convecting fluid is investigated under steady-state conditions. Particular attention is given to the roles of the dtffusivities in determining the extent to which a magnetic field is induced and convective motions inhibited. The model demonstrates how the perturbed magnetic field is generated at the base of the convection zone, which is a region of converging fluid flow, and is expelled from regions of divergent flow.https://doi.org/10.1071/PH850041
