Radiative Decay of the Low-lying States of 12C

Abstract
The B(E2) values for the two 12C radiative transitions 2+(4'43 MeV) --+ O+(g.s.) and 0+(7· 65 MeV)--+ 2+(4·43 MeV) are calculated, using a ground state wavefunction which is a mixture of quartet states. The two transitions can be adequately enhanced over the single-particle transition values. Indeed, the collectivity introduced by the quartet wavefunctions is not the dominant factor in providing the required enhancement; rather the use ofa sufficiently large single-particle basis is necessary.https://doi.org/10.1071/PH750241
