Abstract
Deformations of the nucleus are examined with a model based on the irrotational incompressible motion of an inhomogeneous fluid. Restrictions of previous treatments to small deformations are noted and the model is extended to arbitrary deformations. '".£'he particular case of ellipsoidal deformation is considered and compared with experiment. It is concluded that the contribution of ellipsoidal deformation to hexadecapole deformation is not negligible.https://doi.org/10.1071/PH730433
