Abstract
A generalized theory of radiation pressure forces for arbitrary non-dissipative acoustic systems is applied to the calculation of the force and torque exerted on a body elastically scattering an incident plane wave. The theory leads to the Westervelt and Maidanik formulae for force and torque respectively. Alternative forms for the Maidanik formula are generated by application of the generalized optical theorem.https://doi.org/10.1071/PH720275
