Abstract

Benzodiazepines are widely used, most commonly to treat short-term conditions such as anxiety and insomnia. Although they are generally effective in treating these conditions, and are relatively safe to use, physical dependence and symptoms of withdrawal can occur, even when taken in recommended therapeutic doses.
