Abstract

Anhinga malagurala n. sp. from the Early Pliocene Bluff Downs Local Fauna is described on the basis of a complete right carpometacarpus and a referred right proximal femoral fragment. It is smaller in size than and differs morphologically from both the extant New World A. anhinga and Old World A. rnelanogaster. It is both the oldest fossil darter from Australia and the smallest darter that has been described.
