Abstract
The occurrence in Wallacea of migrant Palaearctic non-passerine birds is summarized. Only twenty-eight species and perhaps three others occur, apart from waders, petrels, and shearwaters. Many are casual or only reach northern Wallacea, seven reach Australia and five winter regularly in Wallacea. The paucity of wintering species may be because there are few niches available to accommodate migrants in small oceanic islands.
