Abstract
Breeding records of Black Swans for eight years are considered in relation 10 breeding sites at Moulting Lagoon, Tasmania. Certain sites are favoured and used annually, whereas others are used irregularly and only during very good breeding years. The annual mean clutch-size is. contrary 10 expectations, highest during years of poor breeding, and only experienced birds arc successful breeders in these years. It is suggested that certain sites should be protected against interference during the breeding season, that measures be initiated to prevent further destruction of habitat by swans, and that plans be made to construct artificial breeding islands.https://doi.org/10.1071/MU970003
