Abstract
Regions for use in Victorian ornithology are proposed and an account of the avifauna of the Rutherglen district of the N.E. region is given. In the latter, brief notes on the history, geology, and climate of the district are included and the major habitats are discussed from the ecological-botanical viewpoint. The bird species recorded for the district (188) are listed with species notes, and a catalogue of all known collected specimens is added. An attempt is made to analyse the avifauna in terms of habitat tolerance, Eyrean and Bassian elements are discussed, attention is drawn to aspects of zoogeographical and ecological interest, tile effects of man arc considered and species posing particular ecological problems are listed. Finally the need for conservation of habitat variety is stressed."https://doi.org/10.1071/MU965001
