Abstract

The definition of Drepanopus is revised. Some taxonomically significant features of D. pectinatus Brady are described for the first time. D. bispinosus, sp. nov. is described from close inshore waters of the Vestfold Hills region of Antarctica. It differs from other species of Drepanopus (and from most genera in the Clausocalanidae) most strikingly in having only two spines on the outer edges of the terminal exopodal segments of the second to fourth pairs of swimming legs. A summary is presented of existing information on the abundance and distribution of D. pectinatus, D. forcipatus Giesbrecht and D. bispinosus.
