Abstract

Preventing the transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the health-care setting is a principal aim of infection control programs in New South Wales. Key stakeholders have adopted a number of approaches to this problem, including education, redesign of equipment, change of work practices, policy implementation and surveillance. This paper will discuss some of the main strategies for preventing occupational and iatrogenic transmission of HIV.
