Abstract
Optimal concentrations of nucleosides rapidly stimulate the rate of oxygen uptake of carrot slices by up to 50% and promote large increases in concentration of ADP. The effect supports the conclusion that respiration of freshly cut slices and the development of induced respiration are controlled primarily by the concentration of ADP rather than by the concentration of orthophosphate.
