Abstract

AUTOMAG is a computer program developed from the Naudy technique to provide an estimation of the depth to magnetic basement below superficial cover; it uses high quality low level aeromagnetic profiles which are now widely available in Australia. The data can be processed using a Sun Sparc workstation and a VAX computer. In this study the method provided depth information in areas where the thickness of overburden was 100 m or less. The technique is equally applicable to much greater depths. The depths to the basement estimated using AUTOMAG show good correlation with depths established by drilling.
