Abstract
MT data have been obtained in Australia by several different groups with a variety of geological objectives. Digital records can now be obtained using modern CPU systems for immediate numerical processing prior to more sophisticated modelling. However interpretations are complicated by near-surface anomalies including static offsets and basement anisotropy. The nature of these perturbations appears to vary between sites but structural elements are normally significant. New 2D and 3D modelling capacity is required to separate the effects of basic physical and mineralogical properties from current channelling near lateral discontinuities.https://doi.org/10.1071/EG993175
