Velocity influence on seismic anomalies on continental shelf margin off coast of New Zealand

Abstract

Seismic studies carried out offshore New Zealand reveal that in certain areas the collection of velocity data is imperative for detecting lateral variations which will permit identification of time anomalies due to velocity changes instead of structural changes. Conversely, structural changes masked by velocity changes can be detected. Changes of velocity are more significant than absolute values. The variations in both are discussed.
