Petroleum geophysics – four decades of progress

Abstract

Progress in petroleum geophysics is, of course, inevitably bound up with the progress of petroleum exploration. In fact, some of us tend to think that advances in exploration technology are primarily the result of progress in geophysics! In any event, by way of introduction, I would like to review briefly how petroleum exploration has evolved from early days to its present state.
