Michael Collins obtained his PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Sydney on the correlation between NMR spectral parameters and molecular structure under the guidance of Professor Sever Sternhell. He is currently the Director of the Australian Forensic Drug Laboratory, having spent more than 20 years working in forensic chemistry. He has served on national and international forensic science advisory panels and his main interest today is the application of NMR and mass spectroscopy to molecular structure determination of designer drugs.
