Women in Chemistry 2020

Professor Frances Separovic is a biophysical chemist and deputy director of the Bio21 Institute, University of Melbourne. Her research group studies the structure and dynamics of molecules in biological membranes. Frances is president-elect of the Biophysical Society (USA), Council member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Biophysics (IUPAB), and Division I member of IUPAC; and former president of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Magnetic Resonance (ANZMAG), General Treasurer of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute (RACI), and president of the Australian Society for Biophysics. Frances is the first female chemist elected to the Australian Academy of Science (2012), an IUPAC Distinguished Women of Chemistry, and the 2019 RACI Margaret Sheil Leadership awardee. She was inducted into the Victorian Honour Roll of Women in 2018 and appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2019.
