Self-Dual Plane Nets in Crystal Chemistry

Abstract

A self-dual net is one that is identical to its dual. It is shown that some of the more commonly occurring binary and ternary intermetallic crystal structure types can be very simply described as a stacking of self-dual nets. Common structure types discussed include those of CrB , Cu₂Sb (= PbClF ), BaAl₄ (=ThCr₂Si₂) and CoSi₂ (= SrMgSi ).
