Abstract
The structure of a component of technical chlordane hitherto considered to be a monochlorinated adduct of tetrachlorocyclopentadiene and cyclopentadiene is revised from (4) to that of 3a,4,5,5a,exo-6- pentachloro-1a,2,3,3a,5a,5b-hexahydro-1,3-methano-1H-cyclobuta [ cd ] pentalene (3c). The structure of a hexachlorinated analoguem known as compound C, and believed to be 3a,4,5,5a,5b,exo-6-hexachloro-1a,2,3,3a,5a,5b-hexahydro-1,3-methano-1H- cyclobuta [ cd ] pentalene (3a), has been confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis.
