Abstract

The title compound, trans-[Br2Mg{O(2-CH2C6H4)2}4], prepared from MgBr2 and 5,7-dihydrodibenz-[ c,e ] oxepin , has been structurally characterized by using single-crystal X-ray methods at 295 K, being refined by least squares to a residual of 0.058 for 2747 'observed' reflections. Crystals are monoclinic, C2/c, a 16.454(6), b 19.489(7), c 17.812(6) Ǻ, β 96.01(3)°, Z 4. The molecule lies disposed on a crystallographic twofold axis which bisects two of the ligands and passes through the magnesium. Mg-Br are 2.623(1) Ǻ; Mg-O are 2.152(7), 2.183(7) and 2.127(4) Ǻ (× 2). Mean torsion angles about the bonds between the two phenyl rings of each ligands are 37.8, 38.0 and 39.3°.
