A practical route to alcohols in the 7,7-Dimethylbenzonorbornene (9,9-Dimethyl-1,4-methanonaphthalene) series

Abstract

The previously undescribed exo-and endo-7,7-dimethylbenzonorbornen-5-ols, can be prepared by the selective hydrogenolysis of the central unsubstituted bond in the corresponding spirocyclopropyl derivatives. Other examples of the reaction are also described.
