Abstract
The average magnetic moment of tris(acetylacetonato)molybdenum(III) has been measured down to 1.5 K. In the magnetically dilute solution state the 4A2 ground state is well described by a S 3/2 spin Hamiltonian with g 1.94, g, 1.97 and D + 7.0 cm-1 or -6.3 cm-1; the ambiguity in sign can be resolved by earlier electron spin resonance data which suggested that D is negative. In the solid state there appears to be a very small antiferromagnetic interaction.
