Abstract
The structure of the bicyclo[3,3,1]nona-2,6-diene complexes with formulae (diene)PdCl2, (diene)PtCl2, and [(diene)RhCl]2 has been shown, by use of 1H and 13C N.M.R. spectroscopy and deuterium labelling, to involve two equivalent metal-olefin bonds preferentially bonded to carbon atoms 2 and 6. Two crystalline forms (α, β) of the palladium complex were obtained. These were completely inter-convertible in either direction from solution, with the a-form being converted into the P-form (with concurrent halogen exchange) under i.r. KBr disc conditions.
