Pyrimidine reactions. XXVII. Syntheses, reactivities and mass spectra of some 2-isopropylpyrimidine derivatives

Abstract

Syntheses of 2-(1'-bromo-1'-methylethyl)-4-chloropyrimidine (1c) and its 4-fluoro analogue (1f) are described. Rates for solvolysis of these and similar bromo compounds in 50% aqueous methanol at pH 7.0 are recorded at several temperatures. These data and some unusual facets of the mass spectra shown by 2-isopropylpyrimidines, and their α-bromo or α-methoxy derivatives, are discussed.
