Abstract
The infrared and ultraviolet spectra of phosphorus(111), arsenic(111), antimony(111) and bismuth(111) ethylxanthates are compared. The C-O band position (around 1200 cm-l) decreases monotonically (7 cm-1 intervals) from phosphorus to bismuth. The absorptions in the ultraviolet are assigned to intraligand and charge-transfer bands. Bismuth ethylxanthate dissociates appreciably in alcoholic solution. The tetrakis(ethy1xanthate) ions of antimony(111) and bismuth(111) were isolated as their tetraethylammonium salts.https://doi.org/10.1071/CH9760559
